About
Don Nguyen was born in Saigon, Vietnam and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where he studied theatre at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and served as the Artistic Director of the Shelterbelt Theatre in Omaha from 1999-2003. Don currently resides in New York City.
As a writer, Don’s full-length plays include THE SUPREME LEADER (developed at Roundabout, Labyrinth Theatre, and Ma-Yi), RED FLAMBOYANT (Firebone Theatre, GAP Prize Winner – Aurora Theatre, Ojai Playwrights Conference), SOUND (Azeotrope/ACT, BAPF, Playwrights Realm Fellowship, Civilians R&D, finalist – Princess Grace Award), HELLO, FROM THE CHILDREN OF PLANET EARTH (World Premiere at the Playwrights Realm).THE COMMENCEMENT OF WILLIAM TAN (Yale Cabaret, NYSAF), and THE MAN FROM SAIGON (A.C.T New Strands Festival, NYSAF 2012 Founders Award, Naked Angels workshop). Nominations include: the Laurents/Hatcher award and the L. Arnold Weissberger Award. Don was a member of the New York Public Theater’s 2008 Inaugural Emerging Writers Group, The Civilians R & D Group and a current member of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab. Don frequently volunteers for The 52nd Street Project and is a co-founder of Mission to (dit)Mars, a theatre company serving the borough of Queens
